Laptop buying experience at Unity Plaza

Laptop.lk shop

So, finally our friend Dharshan decides to buy a new laptop and we go notebook hunting around Unity Plaza with a budget of Rs. 80,000 in our pockets. We walked into a store right behind TechZone, and the sales guy there showed us a laptop saying “with original Windows it would cost Rs. 89,000” and that he would give the whole Windows box as the single key is taken from another computer (OME) would give problems and activation is hard. Dunno what he was trying to promote there but surely he sounded crappy for a tech guy.

Moving away from there, we found another pretty cool “open air” type shop (only of it’s kind there!) which the name board read “Laptop.lk”. The welcoming here was much pleasant and the sales guy was energetically willing to explain everything in detail. I guess it had a promotion or whatsoever but the shop was alluringly lit up well!

(I recommend this shop)

There was a cool HP 3D laptop,  priced at 230,000

A few moments later we were put on a great deal! An HP Pavilion G6 (Intel R core i 2.2, i3, 4GB RAM, 1VGA, 500 Hard Disk and with Genuine Windows) for a decent Rs.75,000. We were glad when they were insisting us on buying “original Windows”!

itGalaxy: Laptop.lk concept store

After making the payment we were asked to go to some place called “itGalaxy” on the ground floor to collect the stuff we purchased. “What’s that?” Again it seemed to be a part of the Laptop.lk group but in fact a new concept store opened just four months ago.

While my friend was busy going through the process of getting the laptop at itGalaxy (Submiting the invoice we received at the 1st floor) I was doing a round visit. The store itself was huge and the various brands were well placed on display, like if you wanted Acer stuff you’ll need to go to the Acer corner, and likewise. Basically, the store was massive with all the products from printers to laptops to tablets and accessories. What more, the staff were well attired and seemed to help every client with a personal touch.

It’s a must place to visit if you’re a gadget freak, and its right at the basement of Unity Plaza. If you enter through the basement you’ll find the store on the left hand side and it’s hard to miss. Ah, and finally for some icing on the cake it’s got comfortable sofas and a TV to relax until your things are ready!

Also as I understand laptop.lk has three stores inside Unity Plaza (above mentioned all shops are theirs)

  1. u shuld hav pay a visit to Lap Zone….

  2. My experience with them was not so good. So does lots of my friends. I don't know whether they have recently changed their ethical policies , because most of the laptops purchased got issued but not so good warranty in return.

  3. Sanka

They have a bloody attitude problem and a huge mafia inside Unity. The prices differ like crazy within their own shop. No fixed prices. I wuld not buy from them. TechZone is awsome.

I Also Bought From IT Galaxy 2Month Ago,No Issues Still, There Prices Are Reasonable,They Hav Gd Brand Collection

  5. Udesh

    I Bought Dell 5110 Core i5

  6. Prasanna

Lots of bad experience with their warranty claiming.

Any Computer Store in Unity Plaza is UTTER CRAP!!! the only people who says it's good are the ones who either work there or has a family member working there. It's a bloody mafia, believe me. Buying is not the issue, if something goes wrong with your gadget, then they behave like it was bought from some where else!!!

    • Agree on that, that's because they bring it down form Singapore mostly and they are unable to give local warranty. That's one reason they are able to give it at a lower price that the main local agents.

If the shops get it down through the local agents warranty won't be an issue.

If you plan to buy a laptop and want to make sure that you won't face any problems regarding warranty, make sure you buy it from an authorized dealer (Metropolitan for Acer, Softlogic for Dell,..ect),.. yeah it's bit expensive, but it worths if u get any issues with your gadget and have to claim warranty… claiming warranty from both Laptop.lk and Techzone is a nightmare ! !… Lot of my friends at university have suffered a lot because of these two places :( :(
