Big Bad Wolf Books kicks off for the second time in 2021

If you’re a book lover then the Big Bad Wolf Books name is probably not new to you. Since its first arrival in 2016, the annual book sale has been a massive hit in Sri Lanka. Now, as we near the end of 2021, Big Bad Wolf is making an appearance for the second time this year.

What you need to know

The sale will kick off on 3 November and will go on until 10 November. Though there’s a chance that it will extend a few days, as it often does. Just like in 2020, Big Bad Wolf Books will be entirely online, but via this website instead. At the time of writing, the site isn’t online. So you might have to wait until the 3rd to check out the collection.

Big Bad Wolf going online for the second consecutive year has been a welcome change. Particularly considering shoppers wouldn’t have to deal with the hassle of being jampacked with a warehouse full of ardent shoppers. As such, all you need to do is log on to the website and shop like you would on any online store.

In case you’re already wondering, yes, Big Bad Wolf promises islandwide delivery and they’ve partnered up with Grasshoppers to make that possible. While general delivery expectations fall between 15-20 business days, the current COVID-19 situation may have an impact on the actual dates. Also, if your order exceeds LKR 9,000 you’ll get free shipping.

Building on the Big Bad Wolf success

According to the Big Bad Wolf, this year’s sale will host over 60,000 titles with discounts hitting up to 95%. It’s as twice as much compared to 2020. However, the bigger challenge would be catering to the traffic surge. Last year, it wasn’t uncommon for shoppers to come across slow loading screens or random website crashes.

Thankfully, the Big Bad Wolf team aims to offer a smoother experience this time around and it hopes that joining hands with Shopify will do the job. Jacqueline Ng, Co-Founder of Big Bad Wolf Books, added: “We decided to partner with Shopify to give the Wolf pack a memorable experience. Not only will the Wolf pack be treated with the massive discounts and offers to which they have become accustomed to, but they will also be able to witness the Wolf on a brand-new platform as well”.

Big Bad Wolf Books has come a long way following its inception in Malaysia back in 2009. Since then, the Big Bad Wolf Book sale has traveled to 34 cities in 13 countries including, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, and Malaysia. Evidently, Sri Lanka was only the second country to have experienced the online version of the sale right after Thailand.

Judging by the reception received so far, it’s clear that the new format is a hit on the island. Particularly considering how procuring international titles has been a challenge amidst a pandemic-ridden global landscape. So, here’s happy hunting to all you bookworms out there!
