The Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) has voted in a new chairman. After being voted in unanimously, Chinthaka Wijewickrama will be taking over from past chairman Tharmarajah Suresh.
In case you’re wondering, Chinthaka is the Managing Director of Sala Enterprises, which was established in 1992 and has been around for the last 22 years and is still going strong. His plans for the future involve developing the ICT sector through marketing, promoting, and educating programs by maximizing on the resources available in Sri Lanka.
Commenting on the Sri Lankan IT industry he reminded us that currently, the IT industry is the 4th largest foreign exchange earner, generating over US $ 600 million annual revenue with a well paid work force of over 70,000 individuals. The idea is for to generate revenue of $ 1 billion and 100,000 employees in the sector by the year 2016.
FITIS, which was established with the purpose of giving a much needed focal point for the ICT industry in the island, has been pushing the country’s IT industry upwards for the past 28 years, though perhaps not very strongly in recent times. We certainly look forward to see what the new chairman will bring on board and what new ventures FITIS will be carrying out to develop the tech sector here in Sri Lanka.
