Under new management
Hey there fellow reader,
We know it’s been a while since you’ve heard from us, here at ReadMe. We’ve been offline for so long that you might have thought we’re no more. Back then, we offered no formal explanation, statement, or any other reasoning why all our articles were returning a 522 error instead of the actual content. You as a loyal reader deserved better and for that, we’re truly sorry. This is our first step (among many) in an effort to offer you a better experience as a leading tech media.
So why did we disappear? Why did we choose to come back now? What will happen to ReadMe moving forward? Here’s a rundown.
What happened
By December 2020, you would have noticed a name change on our facebook page. Within a few weeks, our website went offline altogether. The team at the time decided to go for a complete rebrand which later got into complications with its management. Unfortunately, coming back online wasn’t as simple as updating the site. Long story short, this prompted www.readme.lk to be put on hold, at least for a while.
Coming back online
Of course, reinstating ReadMe was always the plan. But there were a lot of questions we had to answer ourselves before doing so. Sure, we absolutely love all the stories and thought-provoking discussions that come from the world of tech. But those stories will only go so far as long as we’re financially capable. Whether we like it or not, building sustainable revenue streams is vital for digital media to survive, particularly in a market like Sri Lanka. We learned that the hard way.
This is one reason why we took our time to come back online. The idea was that if we’re to keep doing what we love, it should also make good business sense, both for us and you, the reader. Thankfully, we have some promising prospects in the works that will ensure the gears of creativity and great storytelling will keep turning in the Lankan tech space.
What this means for ReadMe moving forward
For years, ReadMe as a brand has served the Lankan market well. We feel it’s high time we explore opportunities beyond Sri Lanka. But we want to do that while keeping true to our local flavor.
After all, we’ve had the privilege of sharing some of the most amazing stories out there. We only hope to keep that going. But we also want to focus our efforts more on things that truly matter to you. So you may see us exploring more sub-topics, things that play at the intersection of technology and lifestyle.
It goes without saying that high-quality tech journalism will continue to be of prime importance to us at ReadMe. We also want to be more transparent and conversant with you, the reader. It’s something that’s noticeably lacking across a plethora of media today. Our hope is not to be one of them. So, here’s to new and exciting beginnings!
