Dialog eSIM now supports Apple Watches

You can now call and send iMessages from the convenience of your Apple Watch. Dialog announced that its eSIM now extends to Apple Watches. This means that your cellular functionality is available on your Apple Watch even if you don’t have your iPhone nearby.

This will be made available under Dialog’s One Number service. Accordingly, your Watch will have the same number as your mobile connection and all calls and data charges will be on the same. In addition to making phone calls, you’ll have iMessage functionality as well. No SMS though.

How do I activate it?

In order to use the service,

  • You should be a Dialog prepaid/postpaid customer with VoLTE
  • You should be using atleast an iPhone 6s running iOS 15.1
  • Apple Watch models should be GPS + Cellular Series 3 and above (Europe and Asia Pacific versions)
  • Apple Watch should be running WatchOS 8.0 or later

Activating the service itself is pretty straightforward. All you need to do is pair your Watch with the iPhone, Select “Mobile Data” on the Watch app, and select “Set Up Mobile Data”. Next, add the NIC/Passport number along with the connection number, give the connection a nickname, and you’re good to go.

In case you’re wondering, no, international roaming isn’t available via this eSIM feature.

Getting eSIM for your connection

But Apple Watch support isn’t the only available option for Dialog eSIM. According to the Dialog website list of supported devices include iPhone SE (2nd gen) through to 13, Huawei Watch 2 and 3, Google Pixel 3 to 5, and Samsung Galaxy S20 among others. You can get a general eSIM for Mobitel connections as well. Though the site only lists iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max devices.

One of the benefits of going with an eSIM is that you won’t have to worry about any hardware issues such as broken SIMs. Additionally, unlike regular card SIMS, an eSIM can accommodate multiple profiles. It would also make switching networks an easier task, something that would come useful by the time mobile number portability becomes a reality.
