Applications are now open for the UpCourse online course

Over the past few years, we’ve seen the emergence of interesting community initiatives aimed at upskilling the young generation in Sri Lanka. Whether it’s a startup accelerator in Jaffna or a coding club for anyone under 17, these initiatives look to fill in the gaps and cater to the increasing industry demands. The latest movement that hopes to offer a similar opportunity is Edvicon International’s UpCourse program.

This program covers everything from the very basics, like what makes a good personality, to more in-depth topics like Microsoft products and open-source services. UpCourse has got you covered via its virtual classroom and practical sessions.

What’s Edvicon International?

Edvicon International was established on the 28th of March, 2020 with the intention of making decent industry-oriented professionals. Edvicon International is a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization registered under the Digital Infrastructure And Information Technology Division, Ministry of Defence, Sri Lanka. 

Among its many objectives include,

  • Creating personnel with high professional qualifications
  • Making use of the latest technologies available 
  • Opening up a host of opportunities with technology and education that aren’t bound by geography
  • Enhancing innovation and creativity of members
  • Socializing and networking of members.
  • Personnel development of skills

The UpCourse program

This is a free public outreach and education initiative sponsored by Edvicon International, which includes six modules.

Edvicon International, in collaboration with WILAT, University of Colombo, Microsoft, PeachIT, IMPACTIT, Arimac, Vetstoria, and VSIS, will offer this six-month course, excluding the introduction and graduation months, from January to August in the English language.

The objective of this course is to create a platform for raising the value of intellectual capital and leading a career with knowledge assets. This course is intended for Edvicon Student Members and non-members, undergraduates, and students who want to seek more knowledge and prepare for the industry.

What does the course content include?

Level 1 – Personal and Professional Development

This is set to improve personality, including professional development, which will increase confidence and credibility.

Level 2 – Academic Writing, Researching, and Paper Publishing

The goal of this is to aspire to a research study. At the end of this level, you will be able to write yourself a successful research paper.

Level 3 – Microsoft Products and Services

This covers basic to advanced training for Microsoft products and services. 

Level 4 – Cyber Security and Open Source Services

This contains the basics of cyber security principles and open source services. 

Level 5 – Virtualization and VMware

This contains the concepts of virtualization and VMware service. 

Level 6 – LinkedIn Profiling, Interviewing, and Resume Writing

This will guide you to develop a professional resume and LinkedIn profile and face an interview successfully that will grab the attention of recruiters.

The deadline for submissions is the 30th of November 2021. You will be notified of your application status on or before the 31st of December 2021. Participants who have been accepted to the program will be receiving a follow-up email with instructions including the syllabus and online session schedule. You can find more details here.
